LESSONS FROM NEHEMIAH (1)

Read: NEHEMIAH 1 & 2

Meditation verse:
“So it was, when I heard these words, that I sat down. And wept, and mourned for many days; I was fasting and praying before the God of heaven” (Nehemiah 1:4)

The beginning of a month is a good time to start afresh, set goals and act on them. It is also a time to review and drop off what has not been helpful to us so that we can pick up what has been. Whatever it is that you are looking to start or build, the book of Nehemiah is a very useful resource that offers you a guide or template to follow.

The first thing you need to do is to seek God’s face concerning that which you are about to start. On hearing the distressing news concerning the surviving Jews who had escaped captivity and the state of the wall of Jerusalem, Nehemiah knew he had to do something immediately. He wanted to go and rebuild the walls, but how could he leave his duty post as the king’s cupbearer? He knew he needed God’s help and mercy if he was to succeed, so, the first thing he did was to turn to God—in fasting and praying. “And I said: I pray, Lord God of heaven … and let Your servant prosper this day, I pray, and grant him mercy in the sight of this man” (Nehemiah 1:5–11).

Next, identify your key supporter. Your key supporter is usually a ‘gatekeeper’ who grants you access. It may be access to information, network, connection, influence, finance, platform, or stage. Without your key supporter, you may not even be able to begin. For Nehemiah, it was the king. He needed the king’s permission before he could leave his duty post. “And I said to the king, “if it pleases the king, and if your servant has found favour in your sight, I ask that you send me to Judah, to the city of my fathers’ tombs, that I may rebuild it” (Nehemiah 2:4).

Have you accepted Jesus as your Lord and Saviour?

Jesus says in Mathew 11:28; “come unto me all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. No matter what you’ve done or where you’ve been, this invitation is for you. Jesus is knocking at the door of your heart; all you need to do is invite Him in, by believing and receiving Him.

Are you ready? Here’s a prayer you can say right now:

Dear Lord, I acknowledge that I am a sinner in need of grace. I believe that Jesus died to set me free from my sins. Thank You Jesus for dying to save me. Please forgive me for all my sins and come into my heart. Be my Lord and Saviour. Fill me with Your Spirit and enable me to live for You from now onwards, in Jesus’ name, Amen

If you prayed this prayer, please email me at rockteachingministry@gmail.com and let me know about it. I would love to pray with you personally and send you a copy of my eBook; ‘Living the Life’ to encourage you as you begin your journey with Jesus.
