LESSONS FROM NEHEMIAH (2)
Read: NEHEMIAH 1 & 2
Meditation verse:
“So, I answered them, and said to them, ‘The God of heaven Himself will prosper us; therefore, we His servants will arise and build, but you have no heritage or right or memorial in Jerusalem’” (Nehemiah 2:20).
You must also do a thorough evaluation of the project or goal you are desirous of starting and come up with a plan of action. Luke 14:28 (NLT) says “but don’t begin until you count the cost”. You must make a thorough assessment of what the project will entail or cost you. ‘Cost’ does not only imply money. That which you are about to begin will require time, commitment, discipline, and sacrifice. It may require that you forego certain things. Counting the cost helps you determine whether you are ready to begin. Nehemiah said, “and I went out by night through the Valley Gate to the Serpent Well and the Refuse Gate and viewed the walls of Jerusalem” (Nehemiah 2:13).
The next thing you must do is to choose those who will join you to carry out the task. You will need to sell your vision to them. When Nehemiah explained to his team why it was important to rebuild the walls, they became eager to join him.
Then I said to them, ‘You see the distress that we are in, how Jerusalem lies waste, and its gates are burned with fire. Come and let us build the wall of Jerusalem, that we may no longer be a reproach.’ And I told them of the hand of my God which had been good upon me, and of the king’s words that he had spoken to me. So, they said, ‘Let us rise up and build.’ Then they set their hands to this good work. – Nehemiah 2:17–18
Recognize also that you may face obstacles or challenges but, be determined to proceed with a strong faith in God. “But when Sanballat the Horonite, Tobiah the Ammonite official, and Geshem the Arab heard of it, they laughed at us and despised us … So I answered them, and said to them, ‘The God of heaven Himself will prosper us’” (Nehemiah 2:19–20).
Lastly, arise and get started. Unless you get started, a good plan remains just that: a good plan.

Have you accepted Jesus as your Lord and Saviour?
Jesus says in Mathew 11:28; “come unto me all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. No matter what you’ve done or where you’ve been, this invitation is for you. Jesus is knocking at the door of your heart; all you need to do is invite Him in, by believing and receiving Him.
Are you ready? Here’s a prayer you can say right now:
Dear Lord, I acknowledge that I am a sinner in need of grace. I believe that Jesus died to set me free from my sins. Thank You Jesus for dying to save me. Please forgive me for all my sins and come into my heart. Be my Lord and Saviour. Fill me with Your Spirit and enable me to live for You from now onwards, in Jesus’ name, Amen
