GOD IS ABLE TO SAVE BY A FEW
Read: 1 Samuel 14:1-52
Meditation verse:“For nothing restrains the Lord from saving by many or by few” (1 Sam 14:6b)
In the chapter preceding today’s reading, the Philistines had gone out to raid the people of Israel. Israel’s king, Saul had only six hundred men with him. As if this was not bad enough, the men had no weapons. “So, it came about, on the day of battle, that there was neither sword nor spear found in the hand of any of the people who were with Saul and Jonathan. But they were found with Saul and Jonathan his son” (1 Sam 13:22). It was such a hopeless situation.
However, rather than remaining in that hopeless situation, Jonathan decided to take a bold step. “Then Jonathan said to the young man who bore his armour, ‘come, let us go over to the garrison of these uncircumcised; it may be that the Lord will work for us. For nothing restrains the Lord from saving by many or by few” (1 Sam 14:6). And the Lord delivered the philistines over to Israel and saved Israel that day. A question you may wish to ponder over is ‘what if Jonathan had not taken that step of faith?
When faced with overwhelming odds in your life, remember that with God, the resources you have will always be enough. His ability to come through for you does not depend on what you have at your disposal. He can save with many or with few or even with nothing. A lot of times we limit God and His ability to help us. The. Bible says that God does not delight in the strength of a horse or in the legs of a man. He takes pleasure in them that fear Him, in those that hope in His mercy (Psalm 147:10-11). Do you fear God? Are your eyes focused on His mercy? Then, take your eyes off your inadequacies and focus on GOD’S ADEQUACY. If you have been asking God to intervene in a situation, He just might be waiting for you to take that first step of faith. “But without faith, it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that he is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him” (Hebrews 11:6). God responds to faith in action. What are you going to do differently today, knowing that The Almighty is already backing you up?
