YOUR JAR OF OIL

Read: 2 Kings 4:1-7

Meditation verse:

“… and she said, “Your maidservant has nothing in the house but a jar of oil.” (2 Kings 4:2)

Life had happened to this woman. Her husband was dead. She had no personal finances or investments. And now her nest was about to be emptied with the threat of her sons been taken as slaves. Finding herself at the end of the rope, she cried out to the prophet. “So, Elisha said to her, “What shall I do for you? Tell me, what do you have in the house?” And she said, “Your maidservant has nothing in the house but a jar of oil.” At the prophet’s instructions, she sent her son to borrow several empty vessels and pour out the jar of oil into all the vessels and setting aside the full ones. When all the available vessels were filled up, the prophet instructed her to sell the oil and pay her debt; and live on the rest with her sons. That little jar of oil which she despised, became her sustenance for the rest of her life.

God will always leave you a remnant when all else has failed. Your jar of oil is anything you can depend on to survive, during times of uncertainty when everything else is gone. Your jar of oil could be a natural talent or gift that you can utilize, a person that shows you unusual kindness, or relationship or network that you can fall back on. Your jar of oil is something or someone that you can rely on desperate and uncertain times.

If you are going through a season of lack, ask God to reveal your jar of oil to you. The woman did not realize that she had was more than enough. She said, “I have nothing in the house but a jar of oil”. Have you despised that talent, ability, person, or relationship, without realizing that it was meant for your sustenance? Ask God for mercy so that He can reconnect you to the remnant that He has left for you in this season of your life.

Have you asked Jesus Christ to come into your heart?

He says in Mathew 11:28, “come unto me all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” He longs to give you rest."

Would you like to do so now? Here’s a prayer you can say:
Dear Jesus, I believe that You died to save me from all my sins. Today, I invite you into my heart and I accept you as my Lord and Saviour. Please forgive all my sins and help me to live my life for You.

If you prayed this prayer, send me an email at rockteachingministry@gmail.com

I would love to pray with you personally and send you a copy of my book; ‘Living the Life’ to encourage you as you begin your new life in Christ.
