YOU ARE PART OF A SPIRITUAL HOUSE

Read: 1 Corinthians 12:12-31

Meditation verse:

“You also as living stones are being built up as a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ” (1 Peter 2:5).

The Church of God is a spiritual house and as a believer, you are part of that house, with Jesus Christ as the foundation and chief cornerstone (1 Peter 2:5-6). The bible also describes the church as a body with Christ as the head and all beleivers as members of the body (Ephesians 4:15-16). Both scriptures speak of a community, where everyone has a part to play and contributes their share for the effective working, edification and growth of the body. One stone cannot make up a building. One body part cannot make up a body. Indeed, one body part is useless without the others.

“For as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is Christ. For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free—and have all been made to drink into one Spirit. For in fact the body is not one member but many. If the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I am not of the body,” is it therefore not of the body? And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I am not of the body,” is it therefore not of the body? If the whole body were an eye, where would be the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where would be the smelling? But now God has set the members, each one of them, in the body just as He pleased. And if they were all one member, where would the body be? But now indeed there are many members, yet one body. And the eye cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you”; nor again the head to the feet, “I have no need of you.” (1 Corinthians 12:12-21).

In the current digital age, it is so easy to neglect our interdependence with other christains. Some have wandered away from the body, because of one offence or the other. Whatever the reason, resist the temptation to run the christain race alone. Part of satan’s strategy of attack is to isolate the believer; the lone sheep is the most vulnerable. That’s why the bible uses the illustartion of the shepherd who leaves the ninety-nine in search of the lost one. Always remember that you are an individual member of a body. Look for your people and join with them to build a beautiful spiritual house for God with Christ as the chief corner stone.
