WHERE’S JOHNNY’S CAP?

Read: Psalm 103

Meditation verse:

“Bless the lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits” (Ps 103:2).

The story is told of a little boy, Johnny, who was drowning in a neighbourhood pool. As his mother screamed helplessly, a young man jumped into the pool to save Johnny. Moments later he emerged from the pool with a thoroughly shaken and wet Johnny in his arms. As the young man handed Johnny over to his mom, she said in irritation, “where’s Johnny’s cap”?

The irony of this story is that as soon as Johnny came out alive from the pool, his mother forgot how desperate she had been for someone to save him moments earlier. Instead, she focused on his cap which had obviously fallen off his head as he fell into the pool. If truth be told, did he even need the cap at that precise moment? Some of us are like Johnny’s mom. We focus on some insignificant need that we believe has not been met, all the while overlooking the numerous blessings that God has bestowed on us. And just like Johnny’s cap, we may not even need it at this moment in time.

Psalm 103: 1-5 says:

Bless the Lord, O my soul; and all that is within me, bless His holy name! Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits: Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases, Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies, Who satisfies your mouth with good things, so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

God’s ways are not our ways, His thoughts are much higher than ours. If your expectation is yet to be met, relax in the knowledge that God knows the plans He has for you And He may be saying to you, ‘you do not need this at this time’. Focus instead on the many present blessings that you enjoy and thank Him for them.

IN HIS PRESENCE is written by Oke Chinye.
Have you asked Jesus Christ to come into your heart?

He says in Mathew 11:28, “come unto me all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” He longs to give you rest."

Would you like to do so now? Here’s a prayer you can say:
Dear Jesus, I believe that You died to save me from all my sins. Today, I invite you into my heart and I accept you as my Lord and Saviour. Please forgive all my sins and help me to live my life for You.

If you prayed this prayer, send me an email at rockteachingministry@gmail.com

I would love to pray with you personally and send you a copy of my book; ‘Living the Life’ to encourage you as you begin your new life in Christ.
