DEALING WITH THE SIN OF ENVY

Read: MATTHEW 20:1-16

Meditation verse:
“Is it not lawful for me to do what I wish with my own things? Or is your eye evil because I am good?” (Mathew 20:15).

What is your usual reaction when you see others blessed by God, especially in the areas where you desperately need Him to bless you? Are you genuinely pleased, or do you resent them inwardly? Do you give God the glory on their behalf, or do you get bitter and feel God is unfair? If you find yourself feeling resentful at the progress of others, you may be dealing with the sin of envy. Envy is a deadly sin that robs you of your peace, gratitude, and joy. It puts you in a place of constantly comparing yourself with others, therefore blinding you to your own blessings. Envy turns you into an ingrate. You must never allow it to take root in your life.

Jesus likened the parable of the landowner to the Kingdom of heaven. The landowner gave equal wages to every worker irrespective of the hour they began working. When questioned by the workers who had begun their work earlier, the landowner responded that he had a right to do as he pleased with what belonged to him. Everything in this world belongs to God and He can do as He please. The bible says He exalts one and puts down another. He sends down the rain on the just and unjust. Who are we to question His authority? “Is there unrighteousness with God? Certainly not!” (Romans 9:14)

When next you see someone being blessed with something you desire greatly, rejoice with them, and let it be genuine. Commend them and thank God on their behalf. You can even let them know that you are looking to God for a similar miracle. This way, you are limiting the chances of envy taking root in your heart. “It is not of him who wills, nor of him who runs, but of God who shows mercy” (Romans 9:16).

Have you accepted Jesus as your Lord and Saviour?

Jesus says in Mathew 11:28; “come unto me all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. No matter what you’ve done or where you’ve been, this invitation is for you. Jesus is knocking at the door of your heart; all you need to do is invite Him in, by believing and receiving Him.

Are you ready? Here’s a prayer you can say right now:

Dear Lord, I acknowledge that I am a sinner in need of grace. I believe that Jesus died to set me free from my sins. Thank You Jesus for dying to save me. Please forgive me for all my sins and come into my heart. Be my Lord and Saviour. Fill me with Your Spirit and enable me to live for You from now onwards, in Jesus’ name, Amen

If you prayed this prayer, please email me at rockteachingministry@gmail.com and let me know about it. I would love to pray with you personally and send you a copy of my eBook; ‘Living the Life’ to encourage you as you begin your journey with Jesus.
