CHANGE YOUR WINESKIN
Read: Matthew 9:16–17
Meditation Verse:
“Nor do they put new wine into old wineskins, or else the wineskins break, the wine is spilled, and the wineskins are ruined. But they put new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved.” (Matthew 9:17)
In today’s reading, Jesus told His disciples that new wine cannot be poured into old wineskins, or the wineskin will break and the wine will be lost. New wine must be poured into new wineskins. New wine is fresh and strong. Old wineskins are worn out, weak, and outdated. They cannot contain the power of what is new. Pouring new wine into old skins leads to a complete loss.
We can draw natural insights from this spiritual truth. Old wineskins represent old mindsets, outdated thought patterns, limiting perspectives, unhelpful habits, toxic relationships, stale associations, and rigid methods of doing things. New wine represents promotion, growth, increase, and elevation—both spiritually and physically. You cannot embrace a new level of life with old systems and expectations.
As someone said, “Insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results.” To get a new result, you must do something new. In Isaiah 43:18–19, before God promised a new thing to the children of Israel, He instructed them to forget the former things. “Do not remember the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing…”
In Isaiah 54:1–3, before promising expansion, God told the barren woman to enlarge her tent, stretch her dwelling, lengthen her cords, and strengthen her stakes. She had to let go of old limitations before stepping into the new.
God is always willing to bless, increase, and enlarge the lives of His children. But we often limit Him by clinging to the old. Is there an area in your life where you’re asking for new wine? What old wineskin do you need to discard?
Don’t be like the Israelites who wandered for forty years because they wouldn’t let go of old mindsets. To walk into the promise, you must be willing to change.

Have you asked Jesus Christ to come into your heart?
He says in Mathew 11:28, “come unto me all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” He longs to give you rest."
Would you like to do so now? Here’s a prayer you can say:
Dear Jesus, I believe that You died to save me from all my sins. Today, I invite you into my heart and I accept you as my Lord and Saviour. Please forgive all my sins and help me to live my life for You.
