UNLOCKING HIDDEN TREASURES

Read: Psalm 119

Meditation verse:

“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success” (Joshua 1:8).

This morning, I was looking for an empty jotter to jot down some thoughts. As I opened a drawer in my room and searched through it, I spotted a beautiful red 2025 diary. It was a Christmas gift from my husband—given to me at the end of last year. I had placed it in the drawer, intending to start using it in the New Year, but I had completely forgotten about it. Now, six months into the year, I stumbled upon it again.

Curious, I casually flipped through its pages. When I got to December 31, I discovered a handwritten note from my husband. It read:

“My princess, you might see this only at the end of the year. When you do, I want you to remember that I have been cheering you along.”

Had I not been searching for a jotter, this precious message might have remained undiscovered. His thoughtful words and beautiful gift would have remained a hidden treasure.

The Word of God is like that diary—a precious gift filled with encouragement, truth, and love from our Heavenly Father. It is God’s heart expressed in written form. In His Word, you’ll find love letters in the form of promises, wisdom for decision-making, encouragement for tough days, and hope for every season. You’ll find timeless principles for success, healing for brokenness, peace for anxious hearts, and clarity for confused minds. And most importantly, you’ll find the path to eternal life through Jesus Christ—“the way, the truth, and the life” (John 14:6).

But like any treasure, these riches must be searched out. If neglected, they remain unopened, unused, and unknown. To access them, we must open the Word daily—with hunger, consistency, and expectancy.

Jeremiah 15:16 says:

“Your words were found, and I ate them, and Your word was to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart; for I am called by Your name, O Lord God of hosts.”

Psalm 119 echoes this passion:

Your testimonies are wonderful; therefore my soul keeps them. The entrance of Your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple. I opened my mouth and panted, for I longed for Your commandments” (vv. 129–131).

And again:

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path” (v. 105).

As a new month begins, why not make a fresh commitment to God’s Word? Before you reach for your phone in the morning, reach for the Word. Let His voice be the first one you hear each day. “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15, KJV).

Don’t let God’s voice remain hidden in a drawer. Open it. Read it. Treasure it.

Because within its pages lies everything your soul will ever need.
