THE STILL SMALL VOICE
Read: 1 Kings 19:11-12
Meditation verse:
“And after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice” (1 Kings 19:12)
In today’s reading, God instructed Elijah to go and stand on the mountain in readiness to hear from Him. “And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake; and after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice” and Elijah heard God speak. God often speaks to us through a still small voice which is the inaudible voice of God speaking to our hearts through His Holy Spirit. It is a sense of knowing within us which is divinely inspired.
You must train yourself to hear and respond to the still small voice else you may miss out on God’s best for you. Philippians 2:13 says, “for it is God who works in you both to will and to do of His good pleasure”. Within the context of religious life, St Ignatius of Loyola (founder of the Society of Jesus) regarded decisions based on the natural powers of intellect as inferior. He argued that we examined issues from diverse perspectives, weighing the advantages and disadvantages to see where the balance tilted, because that was all we were capable of doing. He stated that a superior form of decision making or ‘knowing’ was ‘divine inspiration’: where God, our Lord moves and attracts the will so that the devout soul, without questions or a desire to question follows what has been manifested to him.
God has great plans for you. Spend time in His presence consistently and pay close attention to that still small voice that speaks to and directs your heart. God also speaks through His word. As you study God’s word, pay close attention to the scriptures that light up inside your heart. They may be pointers to what God is saying to you. Sometimes, a particular picture will keep popping up in your mind. Do not dismiss it. Endeavor to understand what it represents in your life. Summary: God often shows up in simple and quiet ways.

*Have you asked Jesus Christ to come into your heart?*
He says in Mathew 11:28, “come unto me all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” He longs to give you rest.
Would you like to do so now? Here’s a prayer you can say:
Dear Jesus, I believe that You died to save me from all my sins. Today, I invite you into my heart and I accept you as my Lord and Saviour. Please forgive all my sins and help me to live my life for You.
If you prayed this prayer, send me an email at rockteachingministry@gmail.com. I would love to pray with you personally and send you a copy of my book; ‘Living the Life’ to encourage you as you begin your new life in Christ.
