STAY ROOTED AND BUILT UP IN HIM

Read: Psalm 1:1-3 Eph 4:12-16

Meditation Verse:

“Rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving” (Colossians 2:7).

Receiving Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour is only the beginning of our journey of faith. We must grow in our faith and become mature in our walk with Him, lest we risk being tossed to and fro by every wind of doctrine, or even falling away from our place of faith. This is what it means to be rooted and built up in Christ.

In Colossians 2:6–8, the Apostle Paul warned the Colossian believers:

“As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving. Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ.”

Paul emphasizes that faith must be nurtured. A believer who is not rooted and built up in Christ is vulnerable to deception, false teachings, and spiritual instability.

How do you become rooted and built up with Christ? Acts 20:32 declares:“So now, brethren, I commend you to God and to the word of His grace, which is able to build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified.” Similarly, 2 Peter 1:5 says: “But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge.”

God’s Word is the spiritual food required for growth. To be rooted in Christ, you must know Him—and to know Him, you must know what He says in His Word. When a seed is planted in the soil, it is nurtured and watered so that its roots can grow deep into the ground before the shoot and branches begin to spring forth. In the same way, you must continually water the soil of your heart with the Word of God so that your roots can grow deep in Christ and your life can be firmly built up in Him.

Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the [a]ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he [b]meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree planted by the [c]rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper”  (Psalm 1:1-3). God’s word is your sure anchor.

To stay rooted and built up in Christ Jesus, a daily intake of his word is non negotiable. We must be intentional in our study of God’s word. A wordless christain Is weak, fragile and unstable. He or she can easily be shaken and defeated by the storms of life.

So,  Feed on the word!
