ROOTED IN PARTNERSHIPS IN CHRIST

Read: Acts 18:1-2, 24-27

Meditation Verse:

““Greet Priscilla and Aquila, my fellow workers in Christ Jesus,  who risked their own necks for my life, to whom not only I give thanks, but also all the churches of the Gentiles” . (Romans 16:3-4)

Priscilla and Aquila were an outstanding husband-and-wife team who ministered faithfully in the early church. They met the Apostle Paul in Corinth during his second missionary journey. As tentmakers by trade, they opened their home to Paul, and he worked alongside them while ministering in the city.

Although they were tentmakers, Priscilla and Aquila were deeply grounded in the Scriptures as a result of their close association with Paul. They made the most of their spiritual training and growth. Their home later became a meeting place for one of the house churches in Corinth, creating an environment where believers could gather, learn, and grow. When they heard Apollos preaching, they recognised that although he was eloquent and knowledgeable, his message was limited to the baptism of John. They took him aside and carefully explained to him the way of God more accurately—sharing the full message of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. This encounter strengthened Apollos’ ministry and enabled him to preach the gospel more powerfully.

The lives of Priscilla and Aquila teach us many valuable lessons.

Firstly, irrespective of one’s occupation, every believer needs to be well grounded in the Scriptures. You never know whose faith or destiny God may use you to influence. We should never be so busy with work or responsibilities that we neglect studying the Word of God or serving others.

Secondly, their story shows that when a person is rooted and built up in Christ, their life bears fruit that transforms others. Priscilla and Aquila became fellow workers with Paul. They supported him, opened their home to him, and even risked their lives for his sake. They hosted a church in their home, opening the doorway of salvation to many. They helped Apollos grow in understanding, strengthening his ministry and extending the reach of the gospel.

Lastly, their lives highlight the strength found in partnership. Priscilla and Aquila were an effective team—one is rarely mentioned without the other. Their unity amplified their impact. Their effectiveness flowed from two lives deeply rooted in Christ and committed to serving Him together.

Jesus said in John 15:5, “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing”. A life that is not rooted in Christ , is lifeless and fruitless. True fruitfulness flows from abiding in HIm
