MAINTAIN GOOD WORKS
Read: Titus 3:8–14
Meditation Verse:
“And let our people also learn to maintain good works, to meet urgent needs, that they may not be unfruitful.” (Titus 3:14)
Ephesians 2:8–9 reminds us that we are saved by grace through faith—not by works—so no one can boast. However, salvation is not an excuse for passivity. In fact, it should stir a hunger for action.
“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” (Ephesians 2:10)
To avoid being unfruitful in your Christian walk, you must be intentional about maintaining good works.
Here are some biblical examples to guide you:
-
James 1:27: “Pure and undefiled religion before God is to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.”
-
Matthew 25:35–40: Jesus said, “I was hungry, and you gave Me food… inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.”
-
John 13:35: “By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”
Start being deliberate about loving and serving others:
-
Reach out to the poor
-
Visit widows in their distress
-
Feed the hungry
-
Help those in need
-
Visit the sick or those in prison
-
Show love through action
These good works may not always feel natural—that’s why Scripture instructs us to “be careful to maintain” them. They require intention, discipline, and compassion.
When was the last time you reached out to someone in need?
Titus 3:8 concludes with this charge:
“This is a faithful saying… that those who have believed in God should be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable to men.”

Have you asked Jesus Christ to come into your heart?
He says in Mathew 11:28, “come unto me all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” He longs to give you rest."
Would you like to do so now? Here’s a prayer you can say:
Dear Jesus, I believe that You died to save me from all my sins. Today, I invite you into my heart and I accept you as my Lord and Saviour. Please forgive all my sins and help me to live my life for You.
