THE POWER OF UNITY
Read: Genesis 11:1–9
Meditation Verse:
“And the Lord said, ‘Indeed the people are one and they all have one language, and this is what they begin to do; now nothing they propose to do will be withheld from them.’” (Genesis 11:6)
There are many scriptures that emphasize the importance of unity. Psalm 133 tells us how good and pleasant it is when brethren dwell together in unity—and in that place, God commands His blessing. Ecclesiastes 4:12 says, “Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A threefold cord is not easily broken.” Acts 4:32 describes the early church as being “one in heart and mind.” Amos 3:3 asks, “Can two walk together unless they agree?”
Unity carries power—whether in a marriage, a church, the workplace, or any group where people coexist.
In today’s reading, the people united to build a tower reaching heaven. God Himself said, “Because the people are one… nothing they propose to do will be withheld from them.” Their goal, though self-centered, could have been accomplished through unity. So God scattered them by confusing their language. Once they could no longer understand each other, the building stopped. Disunity brought confusion, and confusion halted progress.
The enemy understands this principle very well, which is why one of his main strategies is to sow division.
Take marriage for example: he can twist communication between a husband and wife. One says something, the other hears something completely different. Misinterpretations lead to accusations, arguments, disharmony, and eventually, disunity. Communication breaks down, and with it, all progress.
Do you desire to make meaningful progress in every area of your life this year? Then heed this instruction:
“Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.” (Ephesians 4:3)
“As much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men.” (Romans 12:18)
And as you pursue peace, “May the Lord of peace Himself give you peace at all times in every way.” (2 Thessalonians 3:16)

Have you asked Jesus Christ to come into your heart?
He says in Mathew 11:28, “come unto me all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” He longs to give you rest."
Would you like to do so now? Here’s a prayer you can say:
Dear Jesus, I believe that You died to save me from all my sins. Today, I invite you into my heart and I accept you as my Lord and Saviour. Please forgive all my sins and help me to live my life for You.
