LIFE LESSONS FROM KING DAVID (2)

Read: 1 SAMUEL 22-24

Meditation verse:

“And everyone who was in distress, everyone who was in debt, and everyone who was discontented gathered to him. So, he became captain over them. And there were about four hundred men with him”.

David was also a great leader. Whilst in the cave of Adullum, people who were broke, discontented, and tired of life came to him. These were the dregs of society; he became captain over them. When these men were mentioned later in the bible, they were referred to as David’s mighty men. He had mentored and transformed them into great warriors who were skilled, determined and physically fit.

He was a generous King who gave willingly to those he led and to God. Once whilst returning from recovering all that the Amalekites stole from them, the men with him argued that the spoils should not be given to those who were too tired to go to war. David’s response was “My brethren, you shall not do so with what the Lord has given to us, who has preserved us and delivered into our hand the troop that came against us. For who will heed you in this matter? But as his part is who goes down to the battle, so shall his part be who stays with the supplies, they shall share alike” (1 Samuel 30:23-24). He also sent some of the spoils to the elders and his friends.

When he sought a threshing floor to offer burnt offerings to God and was offered one, free of charge, he refused saying “no, but I will surely buy it from you for a price; nor will I offer burnt offerings to the Lord my God with that which costs me nothing”. He bought the threshing floor and oxen for fifty shekels of silver. When he messed up with Uriah’s wife, he was quick to own up to his sin and ask God for mercy, devoting a chapter of the book of Psalms as a cry for mercy.

Our assignments may not be pretty, but whoever God sends our way, we must be willing to serve with all we have. We may fail and stumble from time to time, but when we do, we must be quick to get back on track and make it right.

Awesome lessons from King David.

IN HIS PRESENCE is written by Oke Chinye.
Have you asked Jesus Christ to come into your heart?

He says in Mathew 11:28, “come unto me all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” He longs to give you rest."

Would you like to do so now? Here’s a prayer you can say:
Dear Jesus, I believe that You died to save me from all my sins. Today, I invite you into my heart and I accept you as my Lord and Saviour. Please forgive all my sins and help me to live my life for You.

If you prayed this prayer, send me an email at rockteachingministry@gmail.com

I would love to pray with you personally and send you a copy of my book; ‘Living the Life’ to encourage you as you begin your new life in Christ.
