TAKE HEED IN THESE LAST DAYS
2 Timothy 3:1-17, 4:1-5
Meditation verse:
“But know this, that in the last days, perilous times will come” (2 Timothy 3:1)
We are currently living in very difficult and evil times. Today’s reading gives us an apt description of the times we are in. “In the last days there will be very difficult times. For people will love only themselves and their money. They will be boastful and proud, scoffing at God, disobedient to their parents, and ungrateful. They will consider nothing sacred. They will be unloving and unforgiving; they will slander others and have no self-control. They will be cruel and hate what is good” (2 Timothy 3:1-3 NLT). Virtually every kind of evil have pervaded our nation: broken systems infested with corruption, decay, insecurity, crime, terrorism, kidnapping and all kinds of lawlessness. There is so much decay around us. Broken individuals, broken families, broken systems, broken communities.
The big question is “how can you and I stay above the pervasiveness of the times, such that we do not identify with it in any way? When the apostle Paul spoke of such a time, he gave a warning to Timothy saying “but you must continue in the things which you have learned, and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them, and that from childhood you have known the Holy scriptures which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus”. He went on to charge Timothy to preach the word and be ready in and out of season.
You and I can remain on the path of righteousness by taking heed to this charge. Psalm 119:9 says “how can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word. God’s word is a lamp unto our feet and light unto our path. Let the word of God be your mirror and compass. Let it enlighten your path and guide your choices. 2 Timothy 2:16-17 says, “all scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work”. Subject your choices to the litmus test of God’s word. If it is not in the word, it does not count.

Have you asked Jesus Christ to come into your heart?
He says in Mathew 11:28, “come unto me all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” He longs to give you rest."
Would you like to do so now? Here’s a prayer you can say:
Dear Jesus, I believe that You died to save me from all my sins. Today, I invite you into my heart and I accept you as my Lord and Saviour. Please forgive all my sins and help me to live my life for You.
